Friday, 8 September, 2017 - First Assignment: Personal Artifacts
Introduction Assignment: This assignment is to be a representation of you. You are going to present who you are to the class. The purpose of this assignment is to say (speak), write, or represent who you are through a variety of means, giving us an understanding of what makes you YOU!
FORM: This assignment may take a written, personal description; a video blog (vlog), a diorama, a song, show and tell, powerpoint presentation, poster, painting, or any other for that you may think of that will represent who you are. You will be assessed on the relevant section of the curriculum, based on the form of your project (written will be assessed according to the provincial writing standards)
WHY?: Archaeologists, Paleontologists, and Anthropologists use clues from the past to make informed judgments about what the past holds - who people were, how they acted, and how they lived, as well as what animals were alive, etc. We are using this first assignment to unearth who you are, what you like, and how we live as a society today. We will use these projects to make some generalizations about life today, much as Historians, Archaeologists, Paleontologists, and Anthropologists do.

Note: The fastest way to do this is to use Microsoft Word / Publisher, and make a new document using a brochure template. Search for "brochure" once you make a new document and the "new document" window opens, for you to select the type.
Students are to create an advertisement promoting either Athens or Sparta as a great place to live. Take into account DAILY LIFE, GOVERNMENT, SOCIAL STRUCTURE, along with anything else you wish to include for humor or factual support.

Computer Lab time - December 5-9, 2016
January 8th, 2018 - Middle Ages Assignment - Computer Lab 007 Dec.18-20
Choose a section of culture, life, or society in the Middle Ages and create a project expressing your grasp of concepts related to the curriculum outcomes listed in the rubric. The assignment is broad in scope to allow students to select a particular area of interest and a method of portraying the information which will play to each student's strengths.
The one question that must be asked is this: What can you prove that you have learned? The easiest way to prove your knowledge is by standing up to present your information. It is much better if you can speak from memory. But a student may create a model, or a set of diaries. A student may cook authentic meals from the period, and prove knowledge of which class or people would have eaten it,, on what occasion, and any other relevant information. These are some examples, but students have created plays, and functioning models of trebuchets.
