Poetry is the beauty in language. We learn poetry so that we can write more complete, and rich pictures of the world around us. Evoke imagery and entice the senses.
HOW TO READ ALOUD - CLICK HERE
Is this technically a poetry exercise? YES! Will you be writing a poem? Kind of.
It is about understanding how language evokes imagery.
1. Think of your favorite food. Name it:_______________________________
2. Sight: Describe how it looks, in as many ways as you can.
3. Sound: Describe the sounds associated with preparing it, and eating it, in as many ways as you can.
4. Touch: Describe the texture of it to the hands and mouth in as many ways as you can.
5. Scent: Describe the smell of the food, while preparing and eating it, in as many ways as you can.
6. Taste: You get the idea.
NOW: HIGHLIGHT the best ones that you could use, to make a pleasant piece of writing. Circle the worst.
SHARE: With the class, pick your best 3, and share them. We will try to guess what food you are describing.
